A much needed boost of Vitamin D

I think if I were not a Christian I would worship the sun. It's a big beautiful, bright, WARM, flaming ball in the sky - what's not to love?

As you've probably surmised from the above picture, we actually left our house. Mr. Sun doesn't present himself in Logan until June so we drove south until we found him. I know Claudia doesn't have my same affinity for the sun since he makes a nuisance of himself in Dallas but here he's sorely missed 9 months out of the year. On our drive to St. George, it was a fierce battle to rid ourselves of rain, hail and heavy winds but we bravely peeled off layer after layer until we were down to shorts and flip-flops. (To be noted, Todd does NOT wear flip-flops. According to him they are not good hiking attire.) Interestingly, the locals were still wearing light jackets. I guess 75 degrees is still considered cool.

Some of the highlights, tips and points to ponder:

1- Magically, our bed was made and fresh towels were folded neatly in the bathroom when we returned each afternoon.

2- I learned Hyenas look wicked creepy up close (picture purposely blurred so as not to scare you too much) and there are way too many kinds of antelope and big horn sheep for me to ever remember. (Just to be clear, this is taken at the Wildlife Museum NOT Zion National Park although Todd says that would be cool.)

3- A cool building with modest lighting filled with the sounds of nature will lull any toddler in a stroller to sleep.
4-The beautiful 'Water Walk' near the LDS Tabernacle in St. George is a great place for tired mom's to sit and boundless balls of energy (aka toddlers) to run through water and tire himself out (yeah, right).

4- The proper term for hiking and climbing is "Up!Up!" and every mountain climbed, no matter how small to others, should be celebrated.

5- We finally took a much needed family picture. This will go right above the fireplace.

6- Buses are all the rage in our house now. Even amidst the beauty of Zion and little critters running past on our hiking paths our almost 2 year old had a one track mind. I believe he's enthralled with buses because it means NO CAR SEAT!
And here's one of the many pictures of Evan pointing to "Da Buses!"
7- God really did create a beautiful place for us to live.

I feel great after our quick trip and I give all the credit to Mr. Sun and the wonderful effects of Vitamin D. No matter how hard anyone tries, you'll never bottle sunshine.

As someone who has been getting her Vitamin D in short bursts during my once weekly tanning session, I will admit that you definitely had better scenery. But I'm guessing my legs are tanner than yours!

Looks like a great trip - glad you got to reaquaint yourself with Mr. Sun. Actually, after this weekend's encounter with Mr. Tornado Siren, I'm thinking I've been a bit too harsh on old Mr. Sunshine.

We spent this weekend with Mr. Tornado warning also (Boise) and could have used more Mr. Sun. GORGEOUS picture - do you think I'll go blind if I stare at it too long?

Tristan: I'm would bet your legs will always be tanner than mine - hard as I try they're white as snow. I think you need some of that southern Utah Vitamin D - the scenery does something to relieve stress!

Claudia: A long winter doesn't seem as bad when I think about Mr. Tornado Siren - glad nothing too eventful happened at the Smeltzer home!

Corbie: We'll soon find out - I've been doing nothing but staring at the picture since I returned from my trip.

Tristan: And by 'I'm would bet' I meant of course 'I would bet'. Maybe I have been staring at that picture too long...

What a fun trip! We love Southern UT and Mr. Sun and we do not miss Mr. Tornado siren from NC. Although a mini tornado touched down a block away from my inlaws yesterday.
Glad you left a comment so I could see your cute little family :)

Southern Utah is the BEST! Wish we could send you some sun from So. Cal!
