The Chicken Hut Review

Tonight we traveled to Morgan to pick up 1/4 of a cow that was cut, packed, frozen and ready to fill our freezer with love. My uncles raise cows and we usually buy their beef in the fall - we've bought up to half a cow before! What can I say, we like steak! Now this is where buying in bulk can save some money AND it's really tasty. So if any of you want to buy beef in bulk next year I can probably hook you up.

Anyhoo, after we picked up the beef we dropped in on my Uncle's house to pay him and watch Evan terrorize their house - which is really nice (their house that is, not Evan terrorizing it) and they have an amazing view from most of their windows! Then dropped in on my cousin who lives next door and were about ready to go get dinner and invited us along - to the Chicken Hut.

First off, is that a great name for a small town chicken joint or what? My cousin mentioned that it's good and cheap - my favorite qualities in a chicken joint so off we went to the Chicken Hut! But before we left, my cousin's husband reminded her to call ahead just to "make sure they still have chicken left". It was 6:00 pm. Phew, there was still chicken and 20 fried pieces were reserved for us. Todd asked "What does the Chicken Hut serve if they run out of chicken?" A fair question I think.

On the way to the Chicken Hut...my cousin clued me in that the Chicken Hut is actually run out of a gas station - but they do have a couple of (small) tables we can eat at. Once there, we are served our boxes of chicken almost before we get in the door - which is propped open as soon as we sit down probably in part to give the ambiance of a happening indoor/outdoor club or I think more likely to get us to eat fast and turn their 2 tables over more quickly. The boxes of fried chicken also contained dinner rolls and fried potato wedges - all finger lickin' good. They had run out of plastic forks so the finger lickin' part was not optional. After downing our food, we packed up the leftovers and I was handed a box to take home for lunch tomorrow. I asked what the styriphome plate was for underneath the box and I was told that "sometimes the chicken falls out the bottom". Now the plate makes perfect sense but I am a little worried about my heart.

Really, it was a great time and besides my son offering my cousin's 4 year old girl a masserated potato (i.e. smearing it all over her shirt) I think my cousin and her family enjoyed it as well. The food actually is good and cheap and I recommend it to anyone traveling through Morgan. I hear they also have their own version of Cafe Rio in Morgan if chicken doesn't fancy you.

Thanks Favorite Cousin for a delicious meal and good company! Todd promised her the same great hospitality next time they come to Logan - but with beef. :>

Thanks for the restaurant review. Try as I might, I can't seen to find the Zaggat review for Morgan UT :-)

On the beef: We used to buy beef 1/2 cow at a time in DC. As in drive 2 hours to a slaughterhouse in Virginia to pick up the one specially packaged for us. I have never been so happy with beef. Would your uncle consider shipping on dry ice to TX?

He just might! He's got a guy from Arizona who drives up every year to get his.

And no review of Morgan in Zaggat??? I may have to rethink my future of dining at the Chicken Hut.

Any food place with the name 'hut' in it is bound to be top quality :)

Where IS Morgan Utah, anyway? ;)

So glad you found me. See my comment on your Oct. 20th post.

Anne:

Morgan, Utah is near Ogden, Utah and is a community where there is no visible distinction between your work boots and your church boots, the residents prefer horses to cars as a viable means of transportation, but all own a pick up truck so they can drive into town once a month for supplies.
