FHE and an Epiphany

A few weeks ago a friend of mine came over with her daughter for Family Home Evening. We thought it would be fun to invite another family to join us once in awhile since we get kind of lazy with Evan being so small and usually just read an article from the Ensign while he runs rampant and the TV is on mute so we don't miss anything. The lesson was on prayer and how powerful it can be in lifting us from life's trials. It's difficult sometimes when things are going peachy (maybe more so

when they're not) to just give thanks. After the lesson we sat in our kitchen and each family made a little log of things we are thankful for. As I sat there watching my friend with her daughter, I was just amazed at her ability to persevere in what I think must be a difficult life. She's a single mom with zero extended family to offer the support, love, and advice we all need along with a host of other trials. I looked at what I had almost unconsciously written and thought, "huh, I'm grateful for the internet". But after deep reflection (i.e. it came to me out of the blue today) I've realized why it is that I am thankful for the internet. It has allowed me to stay in touch with friends continents away and it has allowed me to reconnect with friends I didn't think I would really be able to chat with until some reunion we all might or might not attend. Really, it has been a blessing to connect with friends again. Here's to you, blogging pals, for helping me stay sane! Literally.

No pun intended but - Amen! I totally agree. While it seems superficial at first glance to be thankful for the internet, it actually bridges divides that would otherwise be impossible.

Great post!

Hi Sarah! I love seeing pictures of your cute little one, and hearing from you. I'll let you know when I'm in Utah next. In the meantime, if you want to plan a trip to Louisiana, let me know!

What a great evening! Not only did you make the logs, but you made them beautiful!
Thanks for staying in touch - we don't live in a world of many phone calls or in-person visits, so the internet really helps keep us together!

I feel the same way! I live for new blog posts, updated pictures and even endless games of tag. Oh, and sweepstakes, those are good too!

I, for one, am grateful that you joined us in the blogosphere. That one statement will have to suffice as my FHE effort. Which, is another reason the internet is worthy of our gratitude. Without it I would have totally spaced FHE this week!

Corbie: Thanks! Every once in awhile I have a deep thought and I figure I should post it before I forget since this has apparently replaced my journal.

Whitni: I love seeing pics of your cute little girl too! I know Todd would love to visit Louisiana again - especially since it's warm!!

Claudia: Speaking of traveling, Todd wishes he could find a job in Dallas. We both really liked it when we visited his brother who now lives in Utah again. I hope some fun new couple with small kids moves into your neighborhood soon!

Tristan: Don't worry, you're not the first one to forget FHE. Sounds like you guys do a lot of stuff together as a family and I'm sure that counts. :>
