Hence it begins...

Welcome to the "holiday season" where many of us will eat too much, possibly spend too much, and make "resolutions" we have little intent in keeping. But sometimes it can actually be fun! Like everything else in life, I've found the string of holidays soon coming are usually more enjoyable when I focus on others. I've been starting a search for ways to give my time and money to those less blessed. I want to find reputable organizations that are fully non-profit and maximize the good that can be done with what I can offer. I know many people want to give but are skeptical of many organizations out there - I know I am.

So here's my request: If you know of such reputable organizations please post it in the comments or e-mail me and I will add it to my list on my blog. Maybe we can network our way into finding good places to give to. (And please don't ask me to give my time to your needy laundry - I believe Corbie's husband has already offered this service.)

First stop - Halloween!!! Yeah candy!

So, I have decided that you have to find a charity that you are personally passionate about. There are so many great ones that you would go broke giving to all of the deserving ones. So, find your passion - kids, healthcare, hunger, education - and follow your heart. I do always check this website and make sure they are reputable and meet my standards of a well run organization.

Thanks! I've always had a soft spot in my heart for kids with no family - what a terrible way to grow up. So that's what I've been focusing on. I think it hit my heart even more after having Evan. Having kids intensifies almost everything. :>

We are a big fan of the North Texas Food Bank, which may not be particularly relevant to most of your readers, but I think food banks in general are usually well-run, highly volunteer organizations that do a lot of good with very little. I can't imagine anything worse than not being able to feed my children.

Yeah, I've often thought of that too - how awful it would be to not have any food for your kids. We usually try to fill up a bag of canned goods when the scouts come around but I've never actually checked out how the food banks are run. Sounds like they're all pretty low on food right now though.
